Position Summary
Northfield Shares is seeking a high-caliber Communications, Marketing & Grants Manager to help educate the Northfield community about partnering with our Community Foundation on fundraising and fund development, and the full grant‑making process—managing and overseeing all stages – to ensure resources effectively support community needs and advance long‑term philanthropic growth.
This professional, part-time role serves as a key partner to the Executive Director and will be responsible for the organization’s granting process and procedures, and for developing and executing a marketing strategy to educate, engage and ultimately assist the organization’s efforts to grow endowment funds under management. The role will support the Executive Director in internal system support as well as annual fundraising efforts and other projects as assigned.
Lead Annual Marketing and Communications
- With input and partnership from Executive Director and the Board’s Education and Engagement Committee, develop and implement marketing collateral that reflects the initiatives that inform the community about the power of community foundations, specifically aimed at cultivating legacy and endowment giving.
- Transform grant success stories and committee work into compelling content for e-newsletters, social media, and print materials to drive the annual giving.
- Identify and share “nonprofit/grantee impact stories” that demonstrate the long-term value of endowed funds, encouraging donors to consider Northfield Shares in their philanthropy.
- Maintain a professional and visionary online presence (website and social channels) that builds the trust necessary for high-level philanthropic education and investment.
Lead and Oversee Granting Process and Nonprofit Relationships
- Manage the full grant cycle, ensuring a process that is transparent, impactful, and aligned with the Foundation’s strategic goals.
- This role focuses on grantmaking process management and nonprofit relationships; it does not include grant writing.
Assist with Management & Donor Stewardship
- Assist in planning and implementing signature donor and community events.
General Operations & Board Support
- Utilize and support our work in the Foundant CRM Database, Grants management system (GLM), NonProfit
Directory, and other systems as they relate to this role. - Utilize data and reports to guide decisions and messaging.
- Ability to create marketing materials (using Canva and/or other software)
- Provide general office support as assigned/needed in a small working team environment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements & Preferences
- Experience: 3+ years of professional experience. Proven experience in marketing /writing.
- Experience with nonprofit operations, fund development a significant plus
- Attributes: Self- motivated, willingness to learn, highly organized, and capable of maintaining the highest level of confidentiality
- Ability to work alongside volunteers and board committees
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience required
- Basic understanding of Community Foundation work.
- Technical proficiency in Canva or other creative platforms for marketing collateral as well as some experience in database use, Google, Microsoft Office and Social media platforms
- Familiarity with the Northfield, MN community and/or philanthropic landscape a plus
Position Details
- Hours: Minimum of 20-25 hours / week (includes occasional evenings/weekends for meetings and events).
- Compensation: $30–$35 per hour (Depending Upon Qualifications).
- Location: Professional office environment with expectations for community-facing work.
- Benefits: Accrued Paid Time Off (PTO) based on the number of hours per week
